Zelalem Banjaw

"I graduated with an Msc in Medical Physiology from Jimma University, Ethiopia in February, 2021.
I am pursuing my PhD at Ghent University with the research project “Genetics of rare and undiagnosed neurological disorders in sub-Saharan Africa” under the main supervision of Prof. Dr. Dermaut.

The project is aimed to identify gene variants underlying rare and unexplained neurological disorders using NGS-based multi gene panel diagnostic testing at Dermaut Lab, Center for Medical Genetics Ghent (CMGG), Ghent university Hospital.
Our hope is to unveil novel genes and common variants underlying unexplained neurological disorders of sub-Saharan Africans; a region with the most diverse human genomes but represented by very few to rare published works."
